Jib Cranes are a great way of providing low-cost lifting. They provide a functional
and user-friendly means of moving heavy products within a concentrated area. They
can be used as 'stand-alone' structures, for solving a specific lifting problem,
or be used in conjunction with other jibs and monorails - freeing any overhead cranes
for heavier and distal lifts.
Jibs differ greatly to monorails in that they add an all-important second axis.
This permits the servicing of a larger work area, thus representing a more valuable
purchase by the customer.
Jibs can be supplied with or without columns and be matched to a wide variety of
lifting mechanisms - such as electric chain hoists. Jib arms can be suspended from
existing building columns if the column is deemed robust by a qualified engineer.
This saves the cost of an additional unnecessary column and frees the floor area
for more productive use.
Alternatively, we can supply columns for fastening to suitable slabs or steel structures.
For larger cranes (>5 tonne/metres) we recommend the preparation of a dedicated
reinforced concrete footing. (Footing details are available for free, with any relevant
quotation)
VITAL MACHINES has vast experience in both standard and special jib applications.

Applications
Our Jib Cranes are serially manufactured products - available in an extensive array
of sizes and capacities.
VITAL MACHINES utilises pre-existing designs from key manufacturers. We capture
the most suitable designs available and mix these quality products with our proven
hoisting mechanisms and power-feed systems.
Jib Cranes are sometimes woven into the layout of a new factory but more often than
not are retro-fitted. Due to their low-cost nature and ease of installation they
readily serve as a great lifting solution. For this reason, jibs are seen regularly
throughout most industry types including mining, manufacturing,
power generation, boating and sewage treatment.
Technical
Jib Cranes, both wall mounting and free standing, are available in an extensive
array of capacities and determination. In addition, we structure two profile types
in the arm/boom, to better service our customers' needs. Our standard range starts
at a low 30 kg and extends up to 8 tonnes. (Greater capacities are available - pricing
upon request)
Arm/boom profiles are either enclosed or open. The open style is manufactured from
commercially available 'hot-rolled' sections. These sections are used throughout
our complete range and serve as a cost-effective solution. Our enclosed profile
is 'cold-rolled', being utilised in jibs up to 1 tonne capacity. Specially manufactured
nylon-tyred trolleys are used in the enclosed profiles - for smoothness and ease
of operation. Columns are built from square or circular heavy-wall sections, solidly
welded to square or circular base plates.
The most economical cranes are those with top bracing. The design permits slew rotation
to 270 degrees. For additional rotation, and improved headroom, we offer jibs with
under-braced arms. We have two styles of under-braced jibs. When fitted with slip
rings, one design permits continuous unlimited rotation, without the entanglement
of electrical cables.
Free standing jibs can be mounted directly onto the customer's existing concrete
slab, subject to the floor's thickness, condition, and crane size. Assessment of
the supporting slab or structure must be performed by the buyer. (We are able
to offer pre-engineered footing designs free-of-charge with any crane sold)
Larger cranes can be fitted with motorised slew drives. Hoist trolleys can also
be motorised - providing a simple, effortless lifting device for your workers.
